Badlands: Recap

After poker, we made our way back to the campgrounds. Since our tents were set up, we put on some music and talked until dark.

Fortunately we decided to put up the tarp over the green tent that will be housing Orion and myself when camping. I say fortunately because we got caught in an "in-Tents" series of thunderstorms. It was kind of neat to see everything lit up by the lightning just over the
nearby hill.

The one downside is everyone got wet. Elizabeth was lacking for stakes because our tent was missing some (and we needed hers so that our tent would function while her stakes were more for luxury, so to speak). Of course, if she had those stakes then her tent wouldn't have kept
flipping up on the side missing stakes. Yikes.

I got wet because the tarp kept flying off my side, so my side of the tent got wet and soaked my sleeping bag and clothes. Oops.

Finally, Orion got wet because he bravely went out twice in the storms to fix the tarp.

The morning was interesting. Look at the picture again... that's pre- rain. Now imagine very thick mud where you see dirt. Fun!

We creatively backed the car out into a mini-field, and drove across that, rather than get stuck on the mud path. A jeep next to us tried to go down the path after us and got stuck, so it was a good call on our part.

Then we ventured over to Wall Drug, that ever captivating tourist pit stop. Breakfast was very tasty (try the donuts if you ever swing by Wall) and the 5 cent coffee cant be beat on price.

Now that we're caught up on yesterday (keep in mind we had no reception in the badlands) we can tell you about our next destination: Mt. Rushmore. We'll post something soon...
